Japanese Cases in English Data Base / Manual How to search

On the Search Screen

Searching is possible by Court, Case Number, Date of the Judgment, Type of Right and Free word(s).

Search by Court

Searching is possible by selecting an item from the pull-down menu,

that is 'All', 'Supreme Court', 'Tokyo High Court', 'Intellectual Property High Court', 'Osaka High Court', 'Tokyo District Court', 'Osaka District Court', 'Other' .

The default setting is 'All'.

Search by Case Number

All the matching cases with the input word(s) are searched out.

Examples

Search by Date of the Judgment

Searching is possible by day, month and year (A.D.).

Examples

Search by Type of Right

Please Select at least one of Type of Right.

Searching is possible by selecting an item in the Check Box menu,

that is 'Patent', 'Utility Model', 'Design' 'Trade Mark', 'Copyright', 'Unfair Competition' and 'Other'.

Click on [Check All] button to select all menu.

Click on [Check All] button to release all selection.

Search by Free word(s)

Enter all or initial part of the search word(s) for Full-text search of each case.

In the case of inputting more than one Free word, separate them with a blank space,

the search becomes a logical AND operation.

On the Search Result Scree

Search results and the contents of each case is displayed in the screen.

Click on [New Search] button to clear orders of search and return to the search screen.

Click on [Refine Search] button to keep orders of search and return to the search screen.

Contents of Cases

Cases are displayed in the orders of search items.

More Details

Click on the [More Datails] to display the HTML page that stores the full text of each case.
